Want to go to lunch?

Last weekend my daughter called me and said Dad do you want to go out to lunch? Erica and her had gone to the store earlier to grab a couple things. I said sure and she said OK...we will be home and we can go. Let's go to __________. As soon as she said it I was like Eh - I really don't want to go there. Now I have already said we will go out to eat so think fast since you don't want to go there. I know, I know...let's get crabs!! Woohoo...I saved the day! 

But here is something funny. I have never had food from there, never even have been in the place. Why did I have such a negative opinion of a place that I have never been or tried? It starts by things I have heard from people I know that have been there. Almost every person I know that has been to this place has something bad to say. I have heard a couple good things but even on our group I rarely hear of this place or anything about how good the food is. And our group is all about positive and kinds reviews and supporting local businesses. And even more recently someone I know went and actually had a pretty horrible experience there. What they said the response by management really kind of stuck with me. They weren't apologetic but they were argumentative. I am normally the type of person that forms my own opinions and don't take much from he said, she said things. But when you hear the same thing over and over...there must be some truth to it. So in this case I didn't really want to go out and find out for myself. 

When you have a bad experience you are likely to share that with people and let them know how bad something was or how horrible you were treated. I shared a post on the group recently of a bad salad just to show how quick something can blow up. I would never trash a business and I would never try to hurt a business. But it was to just show how quick that can blow up on social media and how likely people are to share those experiences. 

When someone has a great meal or excellent service, or a wonderful experience at a business not too often do they go out and tell everyone how awesome it was. They don't run to google or FB and leave those awesome reviews all the time. Sometimes they do...but more than often people expect good food, good service, and a good experience when paying for food or a service. 

But that is what Shop Local Delmarva is all about promoting - we want to promote you leaving kind and positive reviews. We love hearing about the wonderful experiences you have had all over Delmarva and by you sharing them it encourages others to use them. A couple weeks ago when we decided to get crabs I knew right where I was going. I had heard great things about Trident Seafood Market and they are really close by. We have gotten excellent crabs from other people and places before but this place is located really close by so it is pretty convenient. Last weekend we went back and got more...and I know that won't be our last time either. In two days a post that I did reached well over 5k local people right here on Delmarva just leaving them a kind review. That is exactly what our group is about...
