The TO DO list

I took off last Thursday and Friday and had a few things that I wanted to get done around the house. But I also had one project that I had messed around with for a couple hours and had made up my mind I was going to fix it or else. We have a key pad garage door opener and a few weeks ago it just stopped working. I mean I opened the garage door like I do all the time to go for a quick jog and tried to shut it with the remote. It seemed to work but the garage door didn't do anything. Whatever...left the door open and went for a quick little run.

When I got back I grabbed a screwdriver and changed the battery in the unit. The new battery wouldn't snap in and I finally just popped the old battery back in. And now it worked fine now. OK we will chalk it up to the gremlins...

Fast forward a couple days and the same thing happened...I decided that I was going to reprogram it. So I did...now it didn't work at all. So quite frustrated I just figured I would get around to fixing it later. BUT I guess when I was putting the garage door opener in programing mode I somehow had deleted the other remotes so now none of them worked. GREAT!

So Thursday morning this was the number one thing I wanted to accomplish either fixing it or breaking it the rest of the way so I would have to just call a professional to replace the whole thing!

I got back from a little run and set to it. First things first...I went through all the programing codes and entered each one and nothing...I did it multiple times and then I thought to myself... I am going to start over and just reset. And the unit made a faint chirp. Almost like it had a low battery! :/ REALLY!

So I took the battery out and tossed it in the trash can. Put a new one in and it came on this time. I reset the unit back to the default settings and once again entered in the programing mode. Mind you each time you do this you have to jump on a step stool or chair to get up on the garage door opener to hit the learn button. I had done this now 50 times or more...

IT WORKED!! I had done it! YES!! IT was the darn battery after all.

So now that I had this one fixed I went on to fix the others in the learn mode and I had fixed my garage door opener! And felt like I had accomplished many great things and it was only about 9 am.

Just then my son walks out and says...Hey Dad do you want to go fishing? YEP...so we spent pretty much the rest of the day on his little boat running up and down the river!

Sometimes you just need to take a second to reset, sometimes you just need a new battery, and sometimes you only need to check off one thing on your TO DO list to feel like you accomplished something!
