Join the Lewes Public Library, Seaside Jewish Community, and Browseabout Books online for a conversation with Lynne Olson, author of The Sisterhood of Ravensbrück: How an Intrepid Band of Frenchwomen Resisted the Nazis in Hitler's All-Female Concentration Camp.

Ravensbrück, the only all-women German concentration camp, included an extraordinary group of French women: Germaine Tillion, a brilliant anthropologist; Jacqueline d’Alincourt, an elegant young countess; Anise Girard, an exuberant college student; and Genevieve de Gaulle, the quiet, reserved niece of General Charles de Gaulle. Together they formed a sisterhood, not only to keep each other alive but to continue their battle to resist the Nazis, by defying work orders to assist in the German war effort. After the war, these women went on to fight for acknowledgment of the war crimes they witnessed, and for postwar France to realize women as well as men fought in the Resistance. While it is a story from a very dark time, this book will lift the reader’s spirits and show the strength of sisterhood.

Lynne Olson is the New York Times bestselling author of ten books of history, which focus on unsung heroes—people of courage and conscience who helped change their country and the world but who, for various reasons, have slipped through the cracks of history. She has been a consulting historian for the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Olson is a 2019 History Book Festival alum.

Lynne will be interviewed by Sue Rasher, a long-time Seaside Book Group member.
