The Sussex County Genealogical Society is offering a training class to teach beginning users how to get started with genealogy. Handouts include a syllabus with the links shown in the class, plus additional resources, software, and help sites on-line. Topics to be covered include:

How to conduct and record research
Overview of the most common tree packages
Overview of the most common web sites
Overview of genetic research

The instructor, Jon Smith, serves on the Board of 4 different genealogical societies: North Carolina Genealogical Society, Howard County (Maryland) Genealogical Society, Sussex County (Delaware) Genealogical Society, and North Carolina Cline Family Association. He also serves as an Instructor of Genealogy for Howard Community College. Mr. Smith lectures regularly to North Carolina local societies and is a frequent contributor to North Carolina genealogical blogs and Facebook groups. His focus areas for genealogical research include endogamy, artificial intelligence, and analytical tools.

Sussex County Genealogical Society (SCGS) is a non-profit organization and its mission is to promote genealogy and educational work in a professional manner, encourage and instruct its members in genealogical research through careful documentation and maintain quality genealogical standards.
