Sorry We Don't Do That

So a few weeks ago I dropped by my normal place that I take my boat to have winterized and said that I would bring it in soon and learned they no longer do that. I was almost shocked and said man why did you all stop working on them here. I learned just like many other places they are still having trouble with keeping people. I said I really hate to hear that. And I did...I mean it was super convenient for me to bring my boat there to get everything done too. Seeing my disappointment I was handed a card and told call these guys they are great and will defiantly take care of you. I said thank you and walked back to my truck and put the card in the cup holder. I know one of the other guys there Brian better and shot him a message just saying I was sorry to learn they are no longer doing it. He also told me Alexanders was great and that they just didn't want to have bad services experiences for their customers. I can certainly understand that.

Alexanders Marine Service never heard of them. But if this is who they are recommending their customers go to they must be good. I pulled up their FB page when I got to the office and looked over a few of their posts. I figured what the heck I will shoot them a message and see if they respond. Yep, got a message back and they answered my questions and we had a date set for them to get the boat and take care of all the services I needed.

As one of the most depressing days of the year approached when my boat gets pulled out of the water I got a phone call from Rick and Brian over at Alexanders Marine Service to schedule a time to pick up the boat. These guys timed it perfect. It rained the entire day. I mean the entire day except for the short time it took for them to yank the boat out of the water. Look I am telling you these guys made it easy. Came and got it and everything. Of course we talked for awhile about their business and business in general and I was really happy that I was given their name and I felt really comfortable with the recommendation I was given. I gave them one of the new Shop Local Delmarva stickers I had made and Rick said yea I am on there!!

Having Someone for the Job

I have a friend that is an attorney that says all the time I got a guy. His name is MJ and he really isn't on FB but I chat with him quite often and I am telling you no matter what you need he has someone that can do it. And he always says I got a guy or a girl.

Having those relationships that you feel comfortable recommending or referring people to your friends, family and customers means a lot. It can be a big reflection on you and your business if they don't do a good job or possibly don't even call the person back. I have heard that before from people. They never even called me back. And if I ever hear that I will make a mental note in the future about passing along that name or number.

Just the other day I had a great customer who has brought in a number of her family member to see me. And it means the world. Whenever someone says something about my line of work...I am the person she thinks of. And I love it and I make sure to let her know how much it means too. Getting recommendations and referrals from your existing customers and business partners is what every small business wants.

Referrals are important and I I am sure happy that I got hooked up with Alexanders Marine Service. Now come on Spring!
