Good Morning Shop Local Delmarva!! Here is a pic of the sun just starting to come up out in the Atlantic Ocean from our ride out last Friday that I thought I would share.
I have to admit I haven't been my chipper self lately between something going on at the house maybe a story for another day, and also the office too. Also one of the promotions that we tried to do here didn't work out like I had planned for it either? But as soon as we started talking about a fishing Friday my mood changed. Our ride out was a bit slower than normal and we had our sights set on getting some nice marlins since the reports from the other day were good. Well today was a different day and apparently someone warned them we were coming. So we found some Mahi and got quite a few to bring home for fish tacos!
We started in and the ride in was much better than the ride out and I just listened to some tunes and a buddy of mine and I just polished off a bunch of food on the way in. As Ocean City started becoming visible in the distance I picked up my phone to see if I had service yet. Yeah I did. Err...it took just that split second for my mood to sour again. Emails, messages, text, and voicemails. So I started going through them as I always do on the way back in and responding to the ones I can and forwarding a few. But I had one voicemail that was just not what I wanted to hear at all that was work related. I just sent the representative from the company a message that I would call him on Monday. I could tell from his message what it was regarding and it was disappointing.
We got back in and fueled up, we cleaned the boat and the fish got cleaned and I was off and headed home. I decided it was what it was and there was nothing I could do about it. I wasn't going to stress out about it anymore and although it for lack of a better word "sucked" we would just keep plugging away. And that is exactly what I am going to do.
Our promotion that I was going to do for the trades scholarship had no entries from any student of the trades. It seems hard for me to imagine that a student that is learning a trade such as plumbing of HVAC that is enrolled in an apprenticeship program wouldn't want $1,000? I have seen how hard it is to get people excited about these programs first hand and it is kind of disheartening. One conversation I had with someone about this topic is most of the programs are fully funded and paid positions and they still have trouble finding people to fill the spots.
But it's cool if this one was a bad idea I will just use it as a learning experience and I am going to take that $1,000 and have paid it forward to Michelle Nelson's Shop Local Delmarva Clean Up team. If you have not seen this blog by Michelle make sure you read it and let her know if you want to join them: https://www.shoplocaldelmarva.com/too-much-trash
I can't think of anything that would benefit our local businesses anymore than helping clean up our beautiful Delmarva!!

In addition to helping us put on our Shop Local Delmarva Barn B Q you may notice certain businesses are highlighted and standout not only in the directory but we highlight them on our Facebook Page as well as our group. This ever growing list of businesses help us promote a lot of great things in our community. Many of our blogs which you can find right here are focused on our community and our local businesses. And they are always helping with our community givebacks just like our Shop Local Delmarva Scholarship.
Many of these businesses are helping us promote other local businesses. Which really is what Delmarva is all about. I am asked quite often how a business can be part of Shop Local Delmarva. If you are part of our group you are part of Shop Local Delmarva. If you like the group and like the concept of a digital type of media that we share blogs, videos, highlights and features and want to be part of it we would love to have your support. You can find out more information here. All of our supporters, partners, and sponsors are on the rotating banners on most of our blogs just like this one.
If any of our supporters, partners, or sponsors have upcoming events we encourage them to let us know so we can help them promote them as well.
The whole idea of Shop Local Delmarva is all about our local community supporting local businesses, and our local businesses supporting our local community. It goes round and round.
