ReStore is Open in Fruitland

By Michelle Nelson

July 15, 2024

A second location of ReStore - Habitat for Humanity’s home goods store – is now open for shopping and donating in Fruitland. Excitement was in the air last week during Thursday’s grand opening when customers were treated to discounts, hourly drawings and free hot dogs.

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County embarked on a massive $1.6 million fundraising campaign last to year to purchase a former manufacturing building to turn into a new store and administrative offices. The new space, built by Salisbury company Gillis Gilkerson, is spacious and inviting, with room for a lot more donations that in turn help the community. Habitat's vision, "a world where everyone has a decent place to live," is coming true one home at a time.

If you’re not familiar with ReStore, it sells furniture, construction materials, home goods, appliances, and a little bit of everything else, too. Proceeds are used to support Habit for Humanity which helps people purchase homes of their own, using sweat equity, donations and volunteers. Lessons in financial literacy are included as well. Habitat also operates programs to help seniors and veterans with critical home repairs, enabling them to stay in their homes rather than uprooting and having to find a new place to live.

The long-time Salisbury ReStore location on Isabella Street has been overflowing with donations, inside and outside, and to say the office space was cramped is an understatement. Now the new space has a beautiful conference room and cheery offices with plenty of room.

Inventory is continually changing at ReStore; it depends on what is donated. Whether you’re remodeling or doing a small clean out, consider donating to ReStore. They will even pick up your donations to make it easy.

If you’re looking for deals, then ReStore is your place to go! The new Fruitland location, 105 N. Dulaney Ave., is a block off Main Street and behind the Fruitland Post Office. Note their limited hours – it’s open Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Call the store, 667-221-5429, if you have questions on what they accept for donations.

The Salisbury location, 908 W. Isabella St., is just off Route 50 and open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 a.m. Call 410-749-6325 with questions.

Follow their Facebook page; it’s for both locations. They frequently post photos of what’s for sale, but go to the store directly for prices and more information. Also, Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers for the stores and for builds. See their packed website for how you or your organization can be a part of helping more people realize their dream of home ownership.

  • Inventory is one half while offices and a conference room are on the other half of the new building.
