Getting Caught up in Your Own World

The other day I answered a call like I do over and over throughout the day. I started the conversation with "How Are You Doing?" I was met with a pretty down "Not really that great, but how have you been?" I just replied I am doing pretty good just busy. And said I haven't talked to you in quite awhile. We discussed a few mutual friends and he said well I don't want to take up your whole day but I wanted to see if you could help me out with something. He explained the situation he was having and was asking for my advice. He apologized for calling me as it was for someone who wasn't our customer. I reassured him it was fine and that I have known him forever and I was happy to offer some advice. Which is something that most people in business do quite often...and trust me people appreciate it and you will be who they think of when something comes up in the future.

After we finished that discussion I circled back to him and asked him what else was going on. And he told me he has had a number of health problems and several surgeries and his wife was having some health issues as well. By the time we got off the phone and I had learned of not only all of this but his father passed away not long ago as well. All the problems I thought I had didn't amount to a thing compared to what he has going on. But he had a great positive outlook and was really thankful.

It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day busyness and not stop and take a minute to be thankful for all of the things we are blessed with. I am not a great example of someone who does this either. Erica always reminds me don't sweat the small stuff, there is no need to get upset about that, why do you let it bother you, and look at how blessed and fortunate we are. And I know all of those things but in the moment it can be difficult to put things in perspective.  :)
