Local Doughnut Shops: A Delmarvalous Delight

September 24, 2021

You know what we don’t talk enough about on this site? Doughnuts.

I am more of a savory-for-breakfast type of person but I’m also a loves-carbs person, so there’s always room for doughnuts in my life. So it’s a good thing for me there are a few stellar places to get doughnuts on Delmarva.

My top three:

Bay Country

Located in Cambridge, Maryland, Bay Country is too far away for me to drop in for a casual visit (both a blessing and a curse) but somewhere I can make it a point to stop if we’re heading to Cambridge or beyond. They serve not only doughnuts, but also an assortment of other cookies, pastries, and sandwiches, but I’ve usually just got my eye on the doughnuts, which are always fresh, soft, and absolutely drool-worthy. These are the doughnuts you get when you feel like you need a variety because you’re just not sure what you’re in the mood for, but you’ll know them when you see them (because no one is buying just one doughnut, amirite?)

Fractured Prune

Fractured Prune has a number of locations in Ocean City and is somewhat of an infamous tourist’s delight. Their fried cake-like doughnuts are made fresh to order while you wait, and can be topped with nearly twenty different glazes and a variety of toppings to make dozens of different doughnut concoctions such as a pebble beach: a doughnut topped with honey glaze, cinnamon sugar and mini chocolate chips.

The Hungry Donut

Tucked away in a shopping strip in Ocean Pines, The Hungry Donut also serves made-to-order donuts, and somewhat strangely, acai bowls. They boast donut creations such as the Piggy, Piggy: maple glaze and bacon and Here Fishy, Fishy: vanilla glaze, Swedish fish and strawberry drizzle. I have a slight preference for The Hungry Donut’s treats over Fractured Prune, but both of them provide a party of flavors in donut form and you just can’t go wrong with either.

Delmarva has, I’m sure, other doughnut places that should go on this list and I’m taking recommendations! And though I love, and recommend, all three of these doughnut places, what I still remain on the hunt for on Delmarva is two things: the place that can make an excellent cruller doughnut, and the place that can make a superb almond croissant.

These businesses are a Shop Local Delmarvalous Delight and I highly recommend them!
