Advertising Your Business

So I was joking around last week about having to answer the phones at my office since I have some people out. Well I grabbed one call that day and it was a sales person trying to sell me radio ads. Now I have a bit of a soft spot since many, many years ago this was something I did. Although I didn't call people I walked in and saw them since I was local.

I listened to the pitch. Mr David now you will get this many mentions and this is how it will sound on the radio for only 700 per month. I said bud I am just going to stop you right there I am not going to spend 700 per month on that program...well we can do it just for one week for just 300. 🤔 Um no, that doesn't interest me either. I said you know I appreciate the call and this just isn't something that I feel would be a good fit for my business.

I had three calls just that day from people trying to sell me or get me to advertise in some way shape or form. Everything from calendars, to school book covers, to radio ads. None of these things really sparked my interest or made me feel good about them. Even the one where the guy was telling me how much they needed my support and I know that the bulk of that money isn't going where he was telling me.

But I will tell you what I do feel good about supporting and advertising in a local fishing tournament the - Tangier Classic.

I shared with everyone on the group that I recently joined the committee and attended the first meeting discussing this years tournament. And this really is something special that is local. Not only does that money stay local it brings in more local money to our area businesses too! Think about the hundreds of anglers who will spend money on everything from food, drinks, dining, gas, bait and supplies all in our local area. And there are so many local businesses that help to make this happen too. Not all businesses advertise but some donate things to raffle too.

This is the Tangier Classic's 5th Year and it is going to be really special. If you want to help us with it we would love your support. Here is a sponsor packet that you can view.

Shop Local Delmarva

And don't forget our Supporters, Partners, and Sponsors.

In addition to helping us put on our Shop Local Delmarva Barn B Q you may notice certain businesses are highlighted and standout not only in the directory but we highlight them on our Facebook Page as well as our group. This ever growing list of businesses help us promote  a lot of great things in our community. Many of our blogs which you can find right here are focused on our community and our local businesses. And they are always helping with our community givebacks just like our Shop Local Delmarva Scholarship.

Many of these businesses are helping us promote other local businesses. Which really is what Delmarva is all about. I am asked quite often how a business can be part of Shop Local Delmarva. If you are part of our group you are part of Shop Local Delmarva. If you like the group and like the concept of a digital type of media that we share blogs, videos, highlights and features and want to be part of it we would love to have your support. You can find out more information here. All of our supporters, partners, and sponsors are on the rotating banners on most of our blogs just like this one.

If any of our supporters, partners, or sponsors have upcoming events we encourage them to let us know so we can help them promote them as well.

The whole idea of Shop Local Delmarva is all about our local community supporting local businesses, and our local businesses supporting our local community. It goes round and round.
