Just a Few Messages

It isn't often that I don't get a message or two about something on the group. Now the upcoming Barn B Q has had me quite busy too! I know I have had about 100 messages and have talked to 50 more business owners about that. Even the ones that can't make it have said they hope that we do this again and they will be there. We have over 50 local businesses and vendors already signed up to be there already. And there is still more room if you want to have a booth there for your business too! Just check it out: https://www.shoplocaldelmarvabarnbq.com

Now back to the other messages. Most of the time I pick up my phone and it is a bunch of notifications and then some messages. Why was my post removed, Can you tell me, Do you know? Hey Dave this is so and so would you know who... I had a buddy of mine text me and say man you should open a lead service you would be rich! I loved that one.

I admit I have gotten a bit better about just looking at them when I feel like it and not feeling like I need to respond to things right away. There for awhile I always tried to make sure I was always checking my phone. Now I have really tried to just get to it when I get to it. I look at my phone in the morning while I am watching the news and drinking coffee but then I try not to pick it back up to check messages and emails unless I have to for awhile.

One thing is certain about messages and even comments on social media. People are so defensive or easy to get upset. One thing I try not to ever do is assume to know the tone in which someone typed something. That's because text doesn't have a tone at all. Even people WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS normally don't even realize that they are yelling! lol But seriously the way I read it or it sounds in my head may or may not of been how they meant it at all. It is easy if I am rushing to read something in away that might make me a bit on edge. If I fire a comment right back hastily it could come across harsh as well. And I have had that happen a time or two.

Angie James wrote up a nice little post about the top reasons post are either taken down or removed from our group. I loved that post and we left it pinned for awhile. So many times I get a message asking why something was removed and it was simply because of the privacy settings. If you share something to the group from yours or a friends profile or business page and their settings do not allow it to be seen by others it will get taken down. Or another one is FB's new spam tool. When people comment with just a link they go in to the potential spam for us to check. There are a number of other reasons that a post may get taken down and 99% of people realize that we all have other things going on and are not sitting right there to respond to their messages right away.

A few weekends ago I had one that got under my skin. I am not going to dwell on it and I tried not to read the message the way I did. But I was sure I detected the tone. And I was right. I explained that I hadn't removed their post but I would look into it and see what happened and get back to them. So I did. I explained why it was taken down and showed them in the post why. Now most people will either say Oh sorry, or OK thanks. Not so much I got a message back that I just ignored and said have a nice day. Then the same person came right back and tried to make a dumb post on the group about that. Well I have been down that road once or twice. So I just suspended the person for 30 days. If they come back with the same attitude I am just going to block them from the group which is a shame for them but we don't have time for that stuff.

I made a post about smoked old fashion I made on a bourbon group I am on. One member had to say I don't understand why someone will buy a good bourbon and ruin it by doing something like that, if they wanted it to have that flavor they would have done that at the distillery.  Then on another food group I am on I did a post that got a lot of eyes on it about my queso!! I will share that with you all one day. Anyway I had someone telling me not to use a certain pan, and another lady warned me about some groups having people who are really argumentative. I chuckled to myself...really? It is social media peoples. Have fun, relax and don't get so worked up.
