Delmarva, you are invited! Delmarva Auto Glass is celebrating its 40th year in business and marketing manager Joe Stonnell said the company is throwing a big celebration with live music, games, kids’ activities and food trucks on Saturday, July 22. It’s DAG’s way of thanking the community for their support for 40 years.

And whether you’ve been a customer or not, you are welcome, Stonnell said. “it’s hard for a local company to be in business for 40 years,” he continued. “It’s not only celebrating the 40th year for our employees, but it’s for our customers and the general public,” Stonnell said. “It’s a big thank you to the community.”

The festivities will take over the large parking lot at their Salisbury location at 2121 West Zion Road, just off Route 13 near the Bypass. Funny Farm Petting Zoo will be there, and there will be a dunk tank for you to try to dunk your favorite DAG employees. Everything is free, with the exception of the food truck menu, and the party goes from 1 – 5 p.m. There will be also be games for children and adults, and live music, too.

Delmarva Auto Glass & Accessories was founded in 1983 by Homer King, who still works at the shop, and his partner Gary Parks. King’s son, Brian, works at DAG and is prepared to assume the reigns of the thriving company that has grown to 4 locations and 54 employees. Brian King started sweeping floors after school in 1996 but now is ready to take the helm. “With my brother Michael and son Owen working alongside me, we are excited to continue the family legacy and propel the business to new heights,” Brian King said.

The first person hired all those years ago was Joe’s Stonnell’s father, Charles “CJ” Stonell, who has been the face of Delmarva Auto Glass since the beginning. Brian King said his father attributes much of the company’s success to CJ.

The younger Stonnell, Joe, is usually the first person that greets customers at the Salisbury business. He answers the phone, handles the marketing, and customer service is his highest priority. After working at Best Buy for years, he joined the business that he remembers visiting as a young boy.

“I’ve had a great life because of Delmarva Auto Glass. That’s why I’m so invested in this,” he explained. He clearly remembers when he was a little boy, going to work with his dad on Saturdays. It’s almost like he has come home, working at DAG the past seven years.

Readers of Shop Local Delmarva might recognize Stonnell from his frequent Facebook posts, and he has been an enthusiastic Shop Local supporter since the group’s inception at the start of the pandemic.

“I’m huge on customer service,” he explained. “People don’t have to shop with you. If you don’t have it together, people can shop somewhere else.”

When DAG started, their only product was replacing automotive glass, but over the years, they’ve expanded into home and business lines. They sell and service residential and commercial windows and added automotive upholstery and accessory departments for cars and trucks. They also offer custom window tinting for vehicles and for commercial security.

Besides Salisbury, DAG also has locations in Cambridge/Easton, Dagsboro, Del., and Dover, Del. Those three are limited to auto glass products while the Salisbury store offers all the accessories.
